I met Sarah at the very beginning of her business journey, as she left a 20 year career in IT project management to pursue her life-long passion for precious stones and jewellery design.  Sarah is a shining example of what can happen when you find the courage to pursue your dreams.  Her story and her jewellery are inspirational.  Sarah helped me design our very own Mpower bracelet, which we give as a joining gift to members of our mastermind groups, the angels wings and the heart pendant symbolise the unconditional love and support within the Mpower community empowering women as they find their wings. Sarah’s pieces always have meaning and are made with pure love and passion.sar

Sarah’s Bio - Sarah is an inspirational jewellery designer and mum to two little people.  Following her childhood dream and passion Made by Plumb was ‘born’ in 2013.  Sarah works closely with her clients to create personal pieces of Silver jewellery that can provide an ‘anchor’ in times of need.

Passionate about sourcing and using beautiful stones and materials from all over the world, she loves sharing these and uses them as a starting point for her designs.   She works with her clients directly and also with coaches and therapists to help their clients grow.  Sarah also works with her local Hospice, Farleigh, who took care of her Dad.  Designing and making the ‘Farleigh bracelet’, donating the proceeds to the hospice.

Inspired by Mother Nature, she loves to keep her designs pure and simple, allowing the intention of the piece and the materials themselves take the centre stage.

I could listen to Joan’s beautiful Irish accent all day long!  I met Joan quite a few years ago now, it has been wonderful to see how Joan has reconnected with her art, that has been a life-long passion and is building her business as an artist through her paintings, book illustrations, children’s books and music for little ones.  I have the pleasure of seeing Joan’s work every day – I’m a big coffee drinker and I bought some of Joan’s beautiful seascapes printed on a set of coasters which make my office desk look beautiful and remind me of the sea views on the south coast.

Joan’s Bio - Joan Wallington is the Irish artist behind Joan Kennedy Artist where she lovingly creates seascape paintings and illustrations of quirky animals such as scruffy dogs and mice for children’s bedrooms and offices. Each piece is created using oils, watercolours or inks and although she has painted since she was a child, she only recently turned her passion for creating art into a business. She has turned her art into prints, and home decor products which can be seen at www.joankennedyartist.co.uk

She is also the founder of Little Hands Music teaching babies and toddlers through music and helping parents with their child’s development. Based in Staffordshire these small groups have been running over 15 years. www.littlehandsmusic.co.uk

Nicki’s personal story and the work she does to support women 35+ in a way that literally transforms their lives, I found so inspirational.  Her authenticity and the reasons why her work is so needed, and why she has become so successful shine through in this interview.

If you want to meet a Mum with tonnes of energy and vitality, Maja is your lady.  Known as “The Vitality Strategist” she is definitely a walking advert for what she does.

Maja’s Bio - I specialise in helping mums who have tried any diet under the Sun, or attended any weight loss clubs, without sustainable weight loss results which left them frustrated and feeling low about themselves.  My promise to them is to get them their dream and permanent weight loss within 6 months’ time.

The problems today I see is most of the mums are lacking self – worth and compensate this fact with food. The dominant problems are constant tiredness, being overweight, being physically restricted and feeling depressed. Due to those problems, they are unable to spend actively quality time with their kids. This leads to kids being affected by mum’s health issues and falling into their unhealthy footsteps.

But I have a solution which takes mums' Health, Body and Mindset through  3 milestones with my 6 months programme.

These are:

  • Focus
  • Improve
  • Transform

The benefits are high and sustainable throughout the day energy levels, 1-1.5 stones permanently lost, saying good bye to yoyoing and health issues like joint pains, high blood pressure, depression, adrenal fatigue and much more.

The ultimate results are being able to play with their kids actively and setting up an example for them of how to lead the life full of vitality and self-love.

I am a qualified fitness instructor, raw food nutritionist and a mum of 3 beautiful kids. I truly believe that all  mums need to have the vitality to juggle their kids, career and their personal lives. It is my mission to ensure that mums leave the legacy for their children. And over the next 5 years, it is my mission to ensure that I help 5000 mums to fall in love with themselves and live their lives in a healthy way with tones of energy.

Those of you who have heard about my book The Invisible Revolution will know why I always get so excited about meeting successful jam-makers!  This was no exception, in fact, being invited to go along to the Mrs Darlington’s offices to interview daughters Wendy and Sarah felt a little bit like being invited to Buckingham Palace to meet the queen of Jam-makers!  I felt honoured to be invited into the heart of this successful family business, and to find out what the secret is behind this successful family business which is now global yet remains a lifestyle business which has remained true to its deepest values.

Mrs Darlington’s Bio - Marion Darlington started making her award-winning range of products in the 1980s. Now in her 70’s, Marion is still the ‘Mary Berry’ of recipe creation in the family firm – there are few to rival her skill in creating preserves and chutneys with such a fabulous homemade taste.  However, one of those rivals might just be her eldest daughter Sarah – they’ve been working together for 27 years, along with younger daughter Wendy who tempted away from her corporate job to join the family business in 2006, so when we say on the jar ‘Made with Love’, we really mean it!

Marion still finds it hard to believe she went from making 100 jars a day of her Legendary Lemon Curd in the farmhouse kitchen to selling over 400,000 jars a year of this marvelous product today!

Alexandra is a shining example of a devoted mother who is both passionate about her children and her business.  This is one lady who has such an inspirational story of courage, resiliency and creativity.

Alexandra’s Bio - Mother of two Alexandra de Faucigny is the epitome of the modern entrepreneur. Today her online French boutique Tendre Deal (tendredeal.co.uk) is filled with beautiful, independent French children’s brands who all share a common thread - social consciousness and exceptional high quality.

Having left Paris after a ten-year marketing career, the mother of two never imagined that motherhood would impact her so consummately that she would be inspired to introduce the naturally made French accessories and toys which were staples of her children’s early years, to parents in the UK;

There has long been a love of the famous French childrenswear brands in the UK, but I wanted to support the lesser known French makers whose products are kind to the environment and safe for our children, to UK parents.”

Today Tendre Deal’s offering is made up of brands committed to making a social contribution such as the gorgeous Made in France range by Annabel Kern manufactured in small ateliers in Marseille by disabled young people with a distinct care and love for detail or the cute fashions crafted by Fairtrade certified La Queue du Chat manufactured in India exclusively with organic cotton ensuring a fair wage, an equal pay and medical insurance for the workers and their families, supporting an orphanage in the region where the clothes are produced and a charity that provides essential assistance to homeless mothers. Tendre Deal believes in buying less but better and responsibly.

Have you ever met somebody out of nowhere and there’s an instant connection and flow?  Well that’s how it was when I met Gayle Berry.  She sent me a Facebook message to say hello and although I can’t remember all the details of that message, it was one of those sincere messages that is purely about connecting, and genuinely interested in finding out more about what we have in common.  I immediately invited her to the launch party for the new Mpower brand in London the next day, and she came!  This lady is also on a wonderful mission to empower mothers around the work both through her work as a baby message and yoga teacher, and the incredible charity work she does supporting mothers and their babies in Malawi, through Love Support Unite.  I love how her successful business has grown organically and is so based on the values of love.  She is one of the kindest, genuine and inspirational ladies I know.

Having met Charlotte when she was just getting started with her VIP VA business, it has been wonderful to watch her success unfold.  I am always highly recommending her agency to peers and clients who might be looking for their perfect VA (virtual assistant).

Charlotte’s Bio - Charlotte set up her VA business following the birth of her son in 2012 and realising that corporate life wasn’t going to be flexible enough for her to follow her career passions and be a mum.

She passionately supports businesses and splits her time between working with female entrepreneurs on effective online business strategy and spearheading a new and collaborative movement with VIP VA.

Charlotte launched VIP VA in January 2016 keen to support, nurture and champion the VA industry, and to create a safe space for high performing VA businesses to collaborate, knowledge share and continue their professional development.  She supports aspiring and existing VAs as their coach, mentor and chief-cheerleader for their goals and ambitions.

Charlotte has been quoted around the subject of women in self-employment on a number of occasions and was one of the key case studies for Dame Julie Deane’s Self-Employment Review early last year.

Outside of work Charlotte is wife to fellow entrepreneur Andrew, and mum to Alex, 4 and Evie, 2 who keep her busy and out of trouble!

I first met Gouri in the early days of her incredible business journey - I have loved watching her success unfold as she takes on the role of pioneering her family business in the UK, as a third generation of the family that pioneered the essential oils industry in India.

Gouri’s Bio -  Her grandfather was the first person to cultivate vetivert (a long tall grass) on a commercial basis to extract the oils.  From these beginnings has grown a successful family business called Holy Lama Naturals which  makes a natural body care range based on the ancient principles of Ayurveda and also a unique range of highly concentrated extracts of herbs and spices used in cooking called Spice Drops®.

Gouri (37) grew up in Kerala with her younger sister and parents who continued to develop and grow the business extending the range of essential oils they worked with and their uses.  She watched as together they worked up the beauty range and began to experiment with oils for cooking.  With success, more help was needed and it was Vijaya, Gouri’s mother who set up the manufacturing unit as a Government-recognized women’s enterprise, supporting and empowering marginalized women in the local community, something the business still proudly does today.

Although naturally interested in the family firm, Gouri chose to spread her wings and trained to become a chartered accountant in India where she worked for Deloitte before moving with the company to the UK.  For over a decade she worked as an auditor and during this time met her husband, Anirudha, and had her two children, Neha and Ashwin.

Perhaps it was having children of her own but the lure of working for the family business became too much and in 2013 Gouri left her comfortable job with Deloitte to further her family’s ethical business bringing the natural skincare range and Spice Drops® to the European market.

During the last four years, Gouri has worked hard to develop the reputation of the Spice Drops® name.  As a result, over half the 30-strong range has been awarded either one or two stars at the Great Taste Awards and eminent chefs such as Nigella Lawson, Rachel Khoo, Tom Kerridge and Cyrus Todiwala have recommended using them.  In 2016 Gouri gave Spice Drops® a whole new brand image which is both contemporary and fun while maintaining its Indian roots and the quality of the product.  It has clearly paid off as Sainsbury’s has just taken the range on, marking Spice Drops® first move into the core supermarket sector, building on success in Ocado and Wholefoods and online at Amazon and Not on the High Street.

This interview is a gift to a very special man.  The day we recorded this interview was Annelises’s step-father’s birthday.  Silvestro was a very inspirational man, and Annelise’s love and admiration for her him shines through her.  Sadly, he passed away a few days before our interview date, and Annelise decided she wanted to courageously go ahead and dedicated this interview to him as a birthday gift – and what a beautiful gift it was!

Anja is such a beautiful person and devoted mother.   When I listen to her talk and read her inspirational articles, which have now been published as a book, I find it hard to imagine that English is not her first language.  Anja is both an amazing coach and mother, and I admire how she has built her coaching business alongside her corporate executive role,  all whilst being a role-model lone parent.

Anja’s Bio: I was created an "encourager". In order to transform my passion into a career, I completed a Master in Coaching and NLP in 2013. Today, I am active as individual coach, trainer in personal development and bi-lingual author.

The renewed focus on my vocation was kicked off following my separation. My world had been reduced to work and childcare. So I did my research and signed up for my first training course.

Looking back now, I can see that a few years ago, I only partially lived the life I wanted, I often felt down, I hardly smiled. I wasn't really in control of my inward and outward life experience, full of complaints, pessimism, without goals.

I felt that way when things were going along smoothly as well as when I faced my son's birth, the end of my marriage, surgery with a long recovery process and a complex relationship with my family…

Now I am happier than ever. My motto is "Be The Key", because I am convinced that YOU are the key to open the doors to your future.

This episode takes us to Brazil, where I had the pleasure of interviewing Morena while she was there visiting family.  The birds were tweeting away in the background as Morena, a business profit strategist, shared her insights and top tips with us on all things buisness, money and family.

Morena's Bio - I help heart-centred female entrepreneurs who are making £55K+ per year to create the strategies to control their money so they can hit their financial goals month in and month out.

No matter how much money you make, if you don’t have the strategies and systems in place to support you, you end up not having anything to show for your work. Money is a fluid energy and as such it can go out as quick as it comes in.

I have worked in financial management for the last 7 years of my career.

The last 3 years were in International Development managing the financial side of projects ranging from £5M to £35M. That helped me to become very good are creating and managing budgets as well as the day to day financial management part and understanding how to deliver results and get the best out of people.

Prior to that I have worked at the commercial side of the Science Museum Group in the UK, which is a group of four National Museums. I have had a broad role doing management accounts to all commercial areas, including Retail, Catering, Cinemas and Customer Service which gave me great commercial awareness and analysis capabilities to figure out what initiatives are working and which are a waste of time.

Most small business only see their accountants couple of times a year for their tax returns but I believe that there is much more we can gain from analysing our figures and using them to direct the business strategy.

I am also a mum to a gorgeous 18 months old boy that challenges me everyday to want to be better and to work towards my dreams.

I met Ruth back in 2013, she came along to one of the very first events I organised in London for Mum in business.  Ruth is one of these people who has such a warm and bubbly personality, she lit up the room with her big smile and love of purple!

I've not only had the pleasure of working with Ruth, I'm blessed to call her a dear friend and soul-sister.

Ruth's passion for what she does shines through and she has one of the most incredible professional Bio's, jam packed with professional credentials and awards and yet remains one of most down to earth and modest ladies I've ever met.

Ruth's Bio - Ruth is an award-winning Pregnancy Mindset Expert, founder of Tune Into Your Baby.  Helping women, partiularly those who have conceived through IVF or other assisted conception, to manage their stress levels, feelings of anxiety and overwhelm so they can focus on enjoying a healthy pregnancy.

A qualified, trained and nationally recognised expert in midwifery, health visiting and parenting; with a private practice in London’s Harley Street. She works with clients to eliminate anxiety, fear and stress around their pregnancy so that they can bond with their baby, remain pregnant and importantly enjoy the experience.

She is also author of Tune In To Your Baby: Because Babies Don’t Come With An Instruction Manual – a guide to parenting from conception onward.  For over two decades she has supported thousands of women at all stages of their parenting journey from conception through pregnancy, childbirth and beyond.

Those of you who know me already, probably know that I really enjoy using Facebook both for business and for staying connected to friends and family.  What you might not know is that I owe a lot of thanks to Facebook for some of the most special connections in my life...afer all it's how I met the love of my life, Graham Wilson.

It's also thanks to Facebook that I met amazing Roslyn Bell.

Roslyn had done some talks for Graham a number of years ago for some business events held at his training centre Success Factory.  Roslyn had started hearing about me through Graham's facebook posts and realising we were both mums in business with probably a lot in common, she reached out to say hello (you cannot imagine what a simple hello can lead to in life and business, I can't recommend it enought to you all).

Roslyn lives in Ireland but is regularly in Chester for business, so we arranged to meet up for coffee and a quick chat.  Oh boy! I think it took us a good 90 mins to stop talking long enough to even order our first coffee, and our coffee turned into a 5 hour lunch!  Needless to say, we had that instant connection.

This lady's story is incredible, and VERY inspirational for other women, particuarly mums in business. You'll know what I mean when you listen to the interview.

Amazing story and genuinely amazing lady!

Roslyn's Bio - Roslyn owns her own successful property investment business, she's an entrepreneur, mentor and author of the book about her incredible life story I will be home in 20 minutes

Lindsey has an incredible business, one which I've personally experienced - exhibiting and speaking at her Mums Enterprise Roadshow.  A national event which was so needed, and is helping to change the lifes of ambitious Mums all over the UK.

Lindsey already has a little girl, and as I recorded this interview capturing her insights and wisdom and what has made the difference in her business journey, Lindsey has a lovely bump as she expecting a new addition to the familly.  What an amazing lady, raising her daughter, building her business with the next roadshow due to take place next month (with 1000 visitors registerd and a stadium full of exhibitors) all whilst growing her bump too!

Check out this amazing lady's interview

Lindsey's Bio - Lindsey Fish is the founding director of Mums Enterprise Ltd and the Mums Enterprise Roadshow. The  idea was born from her own experiences of becoming a mum and launching her own corporate event management agency back in 2014 instead of returning to her corporate career as a Marketing Manager for a city tech company.

“I love organising events, ever since my apprenticeship 17 years ago, events have always been a part of my career. Having the idea for the Mums Enterprise Roadshow was my 'light-bulb moment'. My experience of working hard and climbing the career ladder before having a baby meant I was still hungry and eager to be fulfilled in my career after maternity leave.  But I didn't want to put Molly into childcare for 11 hours a day and have a three hour commute when I could be with her.  So I launched my own corporate events agency in 2014 and a year into that the idea for the Mums Enterprise Roadshow struck.

This is our life, our mission and we cant wait to #shootforthemoon and take thousands of mums on the journey with us."

It's crazy really...the first time I met Karen was at the Mpower launch in London. I found it hard to beleive it was the first time we'd met in person, because I'd actually got to know Karen, work with her, and ultimately become friends all in the virtual world over a period of about 3 years prior to us meeting in person for the first time!  When we met in person, I found it hard to believe it was the first time!

I'm so thankful for the power of social media, for connecting us initially, and for giving me the opportunity to get to know Karen, her different businesses and the incredible work she now does supporting Expat women.  Having lived on different continents as an expat myself for almost 16 years, I understand how invaluable getting the right support can be when we are far from the family, friends, language, climate and culture we call home.

In this interview Karen shares the experience of her incredible 30 years in business as an entrepreneur, both as a mother and now a grandmother this lady really has so many golden gems to share...

Karen's Bio - Co-Founder of Voice of Women International, a new global movement for women, Karen Kennaby is a highly experienced and visionary coach/mentor. She works primarily with English-speaking expat women around the globe helping them find joy, meaning & purpose in a different lifestyle - most women she works with have experienced considerable success in their work life and expat life has brought unexpected challenges… she helps them resolve those.  As a result of 30 years running her own businesses, well over a decade coaching and mentoring, together with running various women’s organisations around the world, Karen has a brief case of knowledge and experience to tap into and share. Her life as a single mother whilst founding and running a 7-figure business, being an expat and being a multi passionate woman add to that a depth of understanding, empathy and wisdom that she brings to her work. Karen loves travel, food, romance, personal & spiritual development.
